The Right Posture: Approaching the Word

The Right Posture: Approaching the Word

Before method comes posture. The Word of God is not a textbook to be mastered by the intellect — it is a revelation to be received by the spirit. Approach the Word with humility, recognizing that without the Holy Spirit, the natural mind cannot understand the things of God. Come with reverence, for you are handling the very words of the Almighty. Come with expectation, believing that God desires to speak to you. Come with submission, willing to be corrected, not merely informed. Come with hunger, for the Word satisfies those who thirst for righteousness. The right posture is not that of a critic judging the text, but that of a student sitting at the feet of the Master. The same Word that is closed to the proud is opened to the humble.

“Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.”

— Book of Psalm Chapter 119 Verse 18
Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, I confess my sins and ask Your forgiveness for the times I have approached Your Word casually or studied it without the intent to obey. Thank You for the gift of Your written Word and for the Holy Spirit, who alone can illuminate its truth. Teach me to study with humility, to meditate with depth, to memorize with purpose, and to obey with courage. May Your Word dwell richly in me, transforming my mind, my heart, and my life. Let me never study merely to know, but always to live. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
