Foundation: God Is One

Any biblical teaching about the Trinity must begin with the truth that there is only one God. Christianity does not teach that there are three Gods. The doctrine of the Trinity teaches that there is one God, eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Father is God. The Son is God. The Holy Spirit is God. Yet the Father is not the Son, the Son is not the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit is not the Father. They are distinct Persons, yet they possess the one divine being. The Old Testament does not present this doctrine with the full clarity later given through Jesus Christ and the apostles. Instead, Scripture unfolds God's identity progressively. What appears as hints, distinctions, and patterns in the Old Testament becomes increasingly explicit in the New Testament.

“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.”

— Book of Deuteronomy Chapter 6 Verse 4
Closing Prayer

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — I confess my sins and ask Your forgiveness for every way I have turned from Your perfect will. Wash me clean by the sacrifice of Christ. Thank You for revealing Yourself as the one true God in three persons. Open my understanding to grasp the depth of Your triune nature and Your eternal plan for humanity. Draw me into deeper fellowship with You, and align my life with the purpose for which I was created. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
